At the meeting point between pattern recognition techniques, data mining and graph theory, this Ph.D. thesis aims at elaborating optimized methods to index and compare large corpus of attributed relational graphs, especially to represent image contents. At first, multi-resolution methods based on graph cuts will be investigated to take advantages of the macroscopic structure as well as load balancing the sub-graph comparison task. The graph partitioning will contribute to the performance optimization by reducing and distributing the comparison and indexing tasks. The grid computing is at the center of this stage to rely on a distributed computing architecture.

At last, the design of a dedicated search engine will rise in order to provide a fast and efficient access to stored data by using a pre-indexed database of sub-graphs
